We have all heard about it, but do we really know what greenhouse effects is and can we be sure that this effect exists? The greenhouse effects can be defined in many different ways, but most experts agree that this term describes the process in which the radiation of the atmosphere of our planet is slowly heating the surface of our planet leading to a temperature above the normal temperature present without the atmosphere. The natural greenhouse effect is very important for all living beings. However, our use of fossil fuels and cutting forests has accelerated the greenhouse effect that occurs naturally and resulted in so-called global warming.
It is true that the climate system is not simple, but by conducting certain observations, it is possible to determine whether the greenhouse effect exists or not. If we take a look at some of these observations that are conducted to a long span of time we will see that the greenhouse effect is real. Namely, the level of carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere has increased by almost 50% in the last 100 years. Only this fact should convince us that certain human activities have a negative impact on our environment.
Furthermore, the fact that the world is becoming warmer is another strong piece of evidence that the climate is changing and that our activities have something to do with this. In many countries, the average temperature at the end of every year is higher than the previous one. As a matter of fact, this trend has started more than 70 years ago when precise measurement and keeping records of daily temperature started in many countries. Internationally, important warming and similar changes have been noticed through a wide range of indicators and many different recording instruments. Thanks to these indicators and records we can now build a much clearer picture.
What experts have found is that the continental temperatures and the temperature measured in the lower atmosphere are going up. The same goes for oceans because the temperature of the surface of the oceans has increased. At the same time, even though there is no extended research, the temperature of deep ocean water has increased too. We don’t even need to track the temperature of the deep ocean water because it is a well-known fact that the sea levels have increased.
What is very interesting is that this change of climate and the presence of manmade greenhouse effect are leading to some unusual changes. For example, there is greater warming recorded in polar regions compared to tropical areas. In addition, the continents are becoming warmer at a rate greater than the one associated with oceans. The same goes for night temperature compared to daytime temperature.
So, there is sufficient evidence to confirm that greenhouse effect exists. Truth is that our activities contribute to this effect and it is crucial for every individual to do something about it. Recycling is one way to lower the negative greenhouse effects.
