There’s a strong trend nowadays for people to realize the critical importance of recycling. But it took a while for this to become the case – the first recycling program in the United States was put in operation in the 1970s. Today, we have more than 8,000 different recycling programs, and this goes a long way in helping to preserve the natural raw materials that are needed in order to create new machines, and it goes a long way in saving the environment as well.
But even though there’s a lot more recycling done now as compared to the past, we mustn’t neglect the fact that there is a lot more trash that’s being generated on an hourly basis. This puts a tremendous strain on the recycling industry, and it can barely keep up with the newly generated trash, so nowadays we have the problem of overfilling our landfill sites around the Earth with trash. This can go on for quite some time, because we still have space, but in any case, it can’t go on forever. Eventually there will be a burst out, and there will be no more place for the trash. In order to combat this problem, we need to learn how use the recycling process on a wider, more efficient basis, and we need to do this as soon as possible.
The recycling industry is likely to go through an unprecedented growth during the next 20 years, given the fact that more and more people become aware of the importance of recycling. The industry will find new and improved ways in which it can recycle obsolete products, be they medical e-waste, or laboratory equipment, or anything else in-between.
And there will be a big trend in to the creation of recyclable goods, and their replacing of their non-recyclable counterparts. The fact of the matter is that nowadays we have, simply put, a lot of non-recyclable products that end up eventually as thrash. This is because of the way they were originally built in. If people knew of the importance of recycling when they were creating these non-recyclable products, they would have easily implemented a few tweaks into the products in order to make them fully recyclable. This is what happens today though, and the trend is going toward the creation of only recyclable products.
Moreover, the case is clear that we should do away with plastics. Plastics can take more than a hundred years in order to fully degrade naturally, and this is quite a long time. And this is not the worst part – if we want to recycle plastics, we will end up at a loss, because a 4.000$ worth of plastics will give us back a worth of roughly 17$. We should immediately discard plastic bags for example, and replace them with recyclable bags instead.
Finally, we’ll mention the bottle bills that will be put into place into the future. Nowadays only a handful of country have a so-called bottle bill. This bill means that whoever gives empty bottles in a recycling center instead of throwing them out in the thrash, will get money in return. This will create a huge incentive people to recycle more.
These are only some of the trends of the recycling industry in the next 20 years. It’s a dynamic industry, and new changes are introduced every day, so who knows what else we can look forward to.
