When data destruction is not handled with appropriate care, your business or organization can be left exposed to serious security and financial risks. Most IT asset managers and private individuals cite secure destruction services as their number one concern when seeking to recycle hard drives and electronic waste. I Global understands this priority and taps into our existing partnerships and robust end-to-end shredding and destruction cycle to ensure the highest level of compliance and care. Whether you are seeking hard drive shredding, degaussing, sanitation, or simple paper and document shredding, I Global will address your needs with the full assurance of NAID security compliance.
Standard formatting is the process of ONLY deleting the partition table ( indexes to data clusters)
This doesn’t actually “erase” data, it only allows the data to be ignored by the OS/System and overwritten when the space is needed. Meaning the Data is still retrievable using special software or hardware, EVEN AFTER a format and reinstall of the OS.
As you can tell this is a very unsecure way of protecting your data as you would be run the risk of the sensitive data not being overwritten by usage alone.
Degaussing is the process of reducing or eliminating an unwanted magnetic field (or data) stored on a tape and disk media such as computer and laptop hard drives, diskettes, reels, cassettes and cartridge tapes. When exposed to the powerful magnetic field of a degausser, the magnetic data on a tape or hard disk is neutralized, or erased.
More info in our PDF DOCUMENT HERE on how this process works.
(5220.220M, US DoD 5220.22-M (ECE)) Data Wipe as prescribed by NAID
Is a process to which data on a hard drive is re-written entirely over all addressable locations with random character, 7 Times.
We follow this standard here Active KillDisk DoD
Hard Drive Shredding is a process where units are shredded beyond recognition and harvested for precious metal commodities.
Hard drive punching is the act of using a drive pin to punch holes in the media platter rendering the hard drive in-operable, however data can be retrieved by forensics so this is usually ancillary to degaussing.
